Serene

This recipe is inspired by warmer weather on the horizon and camping adventures around the corner! S’mores are one of my favorite sweet treats! I love making and of course devouring s’mores because they are devilishly delicious, and connect me to the countless warm moments toasting marshmallows and making them over a camp/bon fire. As I’ve reduced my processed sugar and food consumption over the years I recognize the effects they were having on my energy levels and body. Keeping me in a cycle of craving and eating other processed foods that made me feel lethargic and dull for the rest of the day. I’m human though, and s’mores are one of my sweet vices that I love to fully enjoy occassionally and with recognition and ownership of how it’s going to affect me. Mini marshmallows, bitter Belgian chocolate, Graham crackers

Mini marshmallows, bitter Belgian chocolate, Graham crackers

First, I begin with an Ayurveda practice before cooking that I love, helping to keep past, present, or future worries and thoughts from being cooked in or stirred into the food. To ground me into the moment before gathering the ingredients to have everything in arms reach. I close my eyes and take a few rounds of deep breaths.

Now, let’s begin first by gathering all the ingredients. You will need graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate, medium heat resistant bowl, medium pot, heat resistant slotted spoon and spatula, baking sheet/flat tray, parchment paper, and small bowl.

melting chocolate

Fill medium pot at least half way with water and rest the heat resistant bowl over the pot for a double boiler. Heat over med-high until boiling then reduce to low heat. Add the chocolate to the heated bowl. Stirring occasionally until completely melted and to prevent the chocolate from burning.

Dipped and dusted s’mores

Next, dip the halved graham crackers, one at a time, into the chocolate and fully immerse all sides. I used a slotted spoon for the extra chocolate to drip through and off, and then to transfer onto the baking tray with parchment paper to dry. Now, sprinkle the marshmallows and dried rose petals over the chocolate grahams. Allow them to dry completely, this could take several hours, or if you have room you can pop them into the refrigerator/freezer to speed up the process. See bottom pic for an example of what they’ll look like dried.
